"World Influenza
Day" was established on November 1, 2018, with the aim of promoting global
efforts in the prevention and control of influenza.
Seasonal influenza is a respiratory infection caused by
influenza viruses that are prevalent worldwide. It primarily affects the nose,
throat, bronchi, and sometimes the lungs. The virus is easily transmitted from
person to person through droplets and small particles generated when infected individuals
cough or sneeze. Influenza has a tendency to rapidly spread during seasonal
epidemics.
For patients who do not belong to
high-risk groups, the focus of treatment is on alleviating influenza symptoms,
such as fever. However, individuals in high-risk groups, who are more
susceptible to severe or complicated illness, should seek medical attention
promptly and receive antiviral medication as soon as possible.
There are 4 types of seasonal influenza
viruses, types A, B, C and D.
The influenza A and B viruses that
routinely spread in people (human influenza viruses) are responsible for
seasonal flu epidemics each year.
Rapid influenza diagnostic tests (RIDTs)
are immunoassays that can identify the presence of influenza A and B viral
nucleoprotein antigens in respiratory specimens, and display the result in a
qualitative way. As a partner of IVD experts, InTec has launched Rapid Flu A/B
Test, which can used to help with diagnostic and treatment decisions for
patients in clinical settings and can be useful to identify influenza virus
infection.
